Jo Ann Cruz

Jo Ann Moran Cruz, Ph.D., is the dean of the College of Humanities and Natural Sciences. Dr. Cruz has previously served on the faculties of Georgetown University, George Washington University, Vanderbilt University, and Boston College.

While at Georgetown, Cruz taught courses in European History and Civilization for the Department of History, the Medieval Studies program, Women’s Studies and for the School of Foreign Service in Education City in Doha, Qatar. During her tenure at Georgetown, Cruz was chair of the History Department and the co-founder and former director of the medieval studies program. She also worked to establish a catholic studies program and directed international initiatives in collaboration with the university’s provost office. She has held numerous positions with the Georgetown faculty senate and has been involved with faculty governance in a variety of areas, including athletics and continuing studies.

Cruz has authored and co-authored several books and monographs including, “The Growth of English Schooling 1340-1548: Learning, Literacy and Laicization in pre-Reformation York Diocese,” “Medieval Worlds: An Introduction to European History 300-1492” and “Education and Learning in the City of York, 1300-1560.” She also has authored articles in a number of publications including Dante Studies, The Journal of Ecclesiastical History, the History of Education Quarterly, Medieval Perspectives, Modern Fiction Studies, Manuscripta and various edited volumes, encyclopedias and dictionaries. She is continuing work on a co-authored book titled, “Religion and the State in the Christian and Muslim Worlds” as well as an edition of letters and a family history from Elizabethan England.

Cruz received her doctorate degree in medieval and early modern European history, with a focus on England from Brandeis University. Cruz also has a master’s degree in history from Brandeis University and a bachelor’s degree in history from Harvard University.

Annie Goldman

Annie Goldman

Annie Goldman is a technical and academic advisor for the College of Humanities and Natural Sciences. She works closely with the associate dean and senior academic counselor. She serves as the liaison between the College and Institutional Advancement. In addition, she updates the website for the College.

Annie is also a pre-law counselor. Formerly, she was a career counselor at Tulane University Law School where she specialized in public interest, government and environmental law opportunities. Prior to her arrival in New Orleans, Annie served as Staff Attorney and then Supervising Attorney of Legal Services of South Central Michigan, where she focused on family and housing law. Annie is a member of the California State Bar. She received her B.A. from Barnard College and her J.D. from UC Hastings College of the Law.
