Hello everyone!

Be sure to mark your calendars for next week’s Winter Wonderland of events. Join us in the OR Monday, December 5th for “Cupcake Design Making” from 5pm-7pm. Always wanted to create that one special cupcake unique for you? Well, here’s your chance to try to do just that. Tell your friends and come have a mini-contest between each other and see who can make the best one.

If you bought your ticket or were one of the first fifty sophomores to get one, you can join the folks at UPB and sophoMORE Initiative for a New Orleans tradition in City Park, “Celebration in the Oaks” at 6:30pm Tuesday, December 6th. Come and see City Park at its finest with Christmas lights galore, an ice skating rink for you and your friends, and of course enjoy some good hot chocolate while your at it! You never know, you might see Santa’s snowman helper, Mr. Bingle, the classic New Orleans icon of the Maison Blanche department store.

Come back to the OR Wednesday, December 7th for dinner and build a gingerbread house. Last year we had someone take a different spin on this classic Christmas custom by giving the traditional four wall house a 21st century makeover. Can you do better or make it more futuristic?

Feel like a kid again, or experience some snow for the first time on Thursday, December 8th, after dinner at 6:30pm in the Horseshoe for UPB’s 5th annual Sneaux event! Don’t worry about getting snowed in! UPB has their connections with the Snow Miser on keeping it in the Horseshoe. Hot Chocolate and S’Mores GALORE!

Did you go to the Thanksgiving Luch? I did and it was great! I had on my plate: turkey and gravy, honey glazed ham, sweet potato casserole, a slice of baked potato pizza, some broccoli, some stuffed mirliton, and a chocolate nut brownie. I must say, the turkey and ham were both delicious.  I love the sweet and salty taste of ham in the afternoon. The sweet potato casserole was just like Mama’s homemade sweet potato casserole and nothing is better than Mama’s! Did some of you think the baked potato pizza was weird? Well, guys, I thought it was too, but after trying it, I truly liked it. The bacon, cheese, and potato strips blended really well to create a unique, but delicious slice of pizza. Got to spice it up every now and then, right? Going to a bit of a more traditional Thanksgiving dish, the cheese sauce for the broccoli was divine with its creamy goodness. Did you try the stuffed mirliton? I admit, I was a skeptic, but I tried it and it was all right. For dessert I have a shout out to Ms. Sandy in the bakery section, I loved the brownie! It hit the spot for the end of my meal! This was by far one of the best Thanksgiving dinners I have eaten. I enjoyed it and I hope you enjoyed yours too!

Some of you might be thinking.. “what the heck is a stuffed mirliton??” Well, mirliton is a pear-shaped vegetable sometimes called a vegetable pear. When stuffed, usually with shrimp or crab meat and other spices and herbs, becomes a New Orleans favorite . . . Stuffed Mirliton! Be sure to try some next time it’s available!

Have you heard about the Loyola Dining Advisory Board? Loyola Dining Services hopes to build a better relationship with students by establishing the first EVER Dining Advisory Board. The board consists of students who get together every week to discuss various parts of Dining Services such as guest service experiences, different venues that could be added in the future, ways to better a student’s dining experience, and much, much more.

If you are staying for the Thanksgiving holiday, don’t worry! Several places will be open. Be sure to look out for the colorful calendars around the Danna Student Center for Thanksgiving Holiday Hours!

From everyone here at Loyola Dining Services, stay safe and have a Happy Thanksgiving!
