The Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights invites applications for the position of Houston Staff Attorney to be based in Houston, Texas. The Houston Staff Attorney will recruit, train and supervise Houston-based volunteer Child Advocates appointed pursuant to the Wilberforce Trafficking Protection Reauthorization Act. The Staff Attorney position is a unique opportunity for an attorney to engage in written and oral advocacy on behalf of unaccompanied immigrant children in removal proceedings. The Staff Attorney will work directly with detained and released children. While this is a Staff Attorney position, the person hired cannot serve as the immigration attorney for any child, but instead will be appointed as Child Advocate or will supervise the work of Child Advocates.

The Young Center is dedicated to promoting the best interests—safety and well-being—of unaccompanied and separated immigrant children in the United States. The Young Center serves as Child Advocate (best interests guardian ad litem in immigration proceedings) for unaccompanied children pursuant to the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act (TVPRA) and the 2013 Violence Against Women Act. The Young Center also conducts policy advocacy at the local and national level to promote consideration of best interests in all decisions concerning immigrant children.
