New York Lawyers for the Public Interest is hiring a staff attorney in our Health Justice program.
The Health Justice program brings a civil rights and immigrant rights focus to health care advocacy in New York City. In partnership with individuals and community-based organizations, we use a wide range of advocacy tools to challenge health disparities and ensure access to high quality health care for people from medically underserved neighborhoods. Current campaigns focus on immigrant access to health care, language access, the impact of hospital closings on low-income communities of color, and access to physical education in schools.
The Staff Attorney will take on existing advocacy and have ample opportunity to lead and collaborate on new campaigns. The Staff Attorney will engage in legal, policy, and administrative advocacy, as well as community organizing and outreach, coalition-building, and media work.
In particular, the Staff Attorney will lead a campaign to provide direct immigration representation to clients with serious medical needs. He or she will also help to develop a broader policy agenda around access to healthcare for undocumented New Yorkers and will represent NYLPI in various coalitions and tables aimed at addressing this issue.
