The National Immigration Law Center (NILC) invites third-year law students or judicial clerks to apply for NILC sponsorship of applications to the Equal Justice Works, Skadden, or other post-graduate fellowships.
As a national legal advocacy organization working for social justice, NILC’s mission is to promote and advance the rights and opportunities of low-income immigrants and their families. Since 1979, NILC has established a national reputation for its expertise on immigration law and its intersection with the health care, public benefits, and employment rights of low-income immigrants. We conduct policy and legislative advocacy on the national, state, and local levels, as well as class action and impact litigation; and we provide training, publications, and technical assistance to a broad range of organizations throughout the U.S., including immigrants’ rights coalitions, legal aid programs, community, faith-based and anti-poverty groups, workers’ rights advocates, community and labor organizers, government agencies, policymakers, and the media.
NILC seeks fellowship applicants to work on a project benefiting low-income immigrants in one of NILC’s priority areas: immigration enforcement, workers’ rights and economic justice issues, access to health care, or access to legal status. NILC will work closely with the selected applicant to ensure that the project proposal is integral to NILC’s priorities and meets a core need in the immigrant community. The fellow will work out of either our Los Angeles or Washington, DC, office. For more information on NILC, see www.nilc.org.
To apply, please submit a detailed cover letter describing your commitment to and experience in issues affecting low-income immigrants and to social and economic justice, as well as your proposed project idea, if you have one. Your cover letter should also address your motivation for pursuing a career in immigrants’ rights.
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis, with strong preference given to those received by June 26, 2015. Please send your cover letter, résumé, transcript (unofficial is fine), and writing sample to email@example.com and use “FEL2015” as your subject line. Please, no phone calls, and do not send duplicate materials. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
