UNITE HERE is hosting a prison justice workshop on July 23rd at 6:33pm called “Locked Up and Locked Out,” sponsored and facilitated by Stand With Dignity, Black Youth Project, Voices of the Ex Offender, Break Out, Congreso, and Ashe Cultural Center. Hear testimony from a currently incarcerated individual in Angola and from a previously incarcerated individual, see a presentation of systems and policies of injustice from the points of view of the facilitators, and discuss the issue of mass incarceration in small groups, brainstorming community solutions to a problem that affects so much of our community. The involved discussion will end with the facilitators presenting a call to action by sharing their current projects related to prison justice. Black and Pink will also have a booth set up so that folks can write to and even develop a pen pal relationship with a currently incarcerated individual who is a member of the LGBTQ+ community.

The workshop will be at the UNITE HERE office at 2926 Canal St. Food will be provided, with vegetarian and vegan options available. Please email or call Ciara Malaugh (clmalaugh@crimson.ua.edu256-651-7485) if you are able to attend so that we may get a count for food. Hope to see you there!
