New Orleans Bar Association (NOBA) & New Orleans Bar Foundation

Public Interest Law Veterans Justice Fellowship

The Public Interest Law Fellowship at Southeast Louisiana Legal Services (SLLS) New Orleans office provides an opportunity for talented and committed lawyers to serve the public interest in the New Orleans area. The 2019-2020 Public Interest Law Fellow will provide civil legal services to low-income veterans to help them stabilize their lives. We hope to serve at least 100 veterans with life changing legal help. Veterans will be reached through legal clinics and partnerships with the new Veterans Administration Hospital, the Bastion, two non-profits serving homeless veterans, and a local Veteran Reentry Court. The NOBA Fellowship provides a new way to improve the lives of vulnerable veterans in the New Orleans area.

NOBA in conjunction with the New Orleans Bar Foundation (NOBF) is helping fund Louisiana’s first Veterans Fellowship in Louisiana at a nonprofit local civil legal aid organization. The Fellowship will be housed at the New Orleans office of SLLS. SLLS is the largest provider of civil legal services in Louisiana handling about 10,000 cases per year through 100 staff members, pro bono attorneys, and other volunteers.

In addition to the work at SLLS, Fellows will be members of the NOBA and may be required to attend several leadership functions, such as the annual Bench Bar Conference, the annual Mayoral luncheon and Fleur De Lis functions. The Fellow will assist with reports and briefings to NOBA.
