For many parents, college is the first time that their children will be living away from home. We know that you want to be sure that the college selected is a safe environment with the best campus protection available. Our Department of Public Safety/University Police is committed to keeping the Loyola community safe through the implementation of educational programs and security services. In fact, their hard work and effort was recently recognized with an A grade and a ranking of #37 in the nation in Reader’s Digest College Safety Survey.

Reader’s Digest administered a comprehensive survey of college campuses on important safety issues ranging from residence halls with camera security to around-the-clock security and emergency plans. Some of the areas where Loyola University New Orleans scored highly were the safety of our residence halls, safety education of freshmen during orientation, and our emergency response plan and notification system. In addition to these services, our 22 full-time university police officers provide escorts 24-hours a day in addition to shuttle services, crime statistics and alerts, and self-defense training. Loyola officers are graduates of state-approved police academies and many are college graduates or are pursuing their college degrees. All officers are certified in CPR and First Aid and the department also includes a full time crime prevention officer and investigator.

I hope this and my thriving in New Orleans post give you a sense of our surroundings, which, in my view, are excellent.

Of course, the best way to experience Loyola, an outstanding institution in an amazing city, is by visiting the campus. So schedule a visit today!
