We recently sent an email to about 6,000 guidance counselors all over the U.S., and the world. I thought I’d share excerpts of it with you, since the content of the letter helps to tell the Loyola story, in the context of these times. Enjoy:

Greetings once more from beautiful Uptown New Orleans and Loyola University New Orleans!

Straight to the case: we share your concern about the nation’s economy and the options students have in this challenging climate. The reason Loyola is ranked first in the South in US News’ Great Schools, Great Prices category is because of the great academic and co-curricular experiences we offer juxtaposed with the generous merit and need-based scholarships and grants we provide. Through an exchange of information with students, families, guidance counselors, and other institutions the country over, we already know that our scholarships will again prove to be among the most competitive in the U.S. this year.

We know that many students will earn acceptance to their top choice, and that top choice will not be able to provide the funding-and, therefore, the value-families are so eager, especially this year, to receive. But, with Loyola on their list, they have a chance to secure the value they need.

A reminder about the strength of last year’s entering class:

  • Average GPA: 3.74
  • Average ACT: 26
  • Average SAT: 1195
  • 30% first generation college students
  • 37% students of color

A Loyola education remains an uncommon one, imbued with the Catholic Jesuit pursuit of excellence, contemplation, a commitment to others, and an international perspective. With a unique combination of small classes, a personal atmosphere, an unwavering dedication to creativity, we offer a guidepost at the intersection of theory and practice.

Thank you so very much for all that you do for your students and for Loyola. We have enjoyed great success over the years, as our graduates have garnered the highest accolades, gone on to earn the most prestigious degrees, and secured the most lucrative and high-profile appointments. But, what brings us the most joy is that they have led exemplary lives.

It is my continued hope that you will share the Loyola University New Orleans story with your students, and encourage them to visit and apply.

All the best,

Salvadore A. Liberto, Vice President for Enrollment Management and Associate Provost
