‘Cause I’ve been down that road before
October 23rd, 2009I know your pain. I do. Trust me. I’ve been there before, and I’m right there with you again.
It’s that time of year again when high school seniors busily compile all of their college application materials before sending it all away, leaving their fate in the hands of various admissions committees throughout the United States. I remember my college application process vividly and now as a senior at Loyola, I’m experiencing the same anxiety I felt back in the fall of 2005. Like other college seniors throughout the country, I’m currently involved in the application process for doctoral programs (in my case, clinical psychology) across the country. Yes, I too am requesting transcripts and various recommendations and writing so many personal statments that I’m beginning to lose count. And in the midst of it all, when the amount to be done seems insurmountable, I too ask myself, “Is it really worth it?”
But I carry on, knowing that if I were to succumb to the pressure, I’d regret it in the long run. So to you high school seniors, sally forth! And to you steadfast parents who wonder if there’s anything you can do to help, be calm. We may step on your toes every once in a while but at the end of the day, we know you care. There’s light at the end of the tunnel, I assure you. And when you get there, celebrate a little. You deserve it.
