With the rising temperatures and regular classes being out of session it seems like few students stay in New Orleans for the summer. Fortunately, my parents agreed to let me stay so I could continue working at my internships. This meant I was able to meet a lot of new people, devour Plum Street snowballs, and never had to wait in line for my CC’s coffee.

While there is a significant decrease in the student population during the summer months, all of the opportunities in the city far outweigh any cons. There’s nothing like waking up in New Orleans and trying to figure out if I would rather take the streetcar downtown, go swimming, or read a book in Audubon Park. The summer also brought in a substantial amount of celebrities since many movies are currently being filmed in the city.

If I had gone home this summer I definitely would have missed out on an interesting conversation with Jason Lee (My Name is Earl) in the Marigny. I probably wouldn’t have bumped into Jessica Szohr (Gossip Girl) on St. Charles Avenue. I also would have missed watching a movie being filmed next door to my house. In fact, with New Orleans basically turning into the new Hollywood there’s enough entertainment for a whole summer!

While I am a little sad to lose my free time (no more film set stalking), I’m excited for my friends to move back and I can’t wait to embark on my 3rd year at Loyola.
