My mom always told me, “You are the company you keep,” if that’s true, (since my mom is never wrong we’ll assume it is) then Loyola is best reflected by its students. So if you are a prospective student or you’re just interested in learning more about Loyola what better way to start your journey than by “meeting” an actual living, breathing Loyola student?

When I was first approached by my boss in the Admissions department to blog for the school I thought I knew exactly what to say: discuss my time at Loyola, share what it’s like to live in New Orleans, and throw in a little Loyola lovin’. What I soon realized is those facts were all interesting and everything I wrote was sincere, but somewhere in the process of simply writing facts I forgot that I was a writer and that any child (piece of writing) I send out in to the world has to reflect me.

In my opinion, anyone can type up a short paragraph about how great Loyola is and how awesome the palm trees are but what are you really learning about Loyola? If you really wanted to know that the place I spend the vast majority of my time bears an uncanny resemblance to Hogwarts you would have Google imaged it.

Instead, you’re here. You’re reading a student blog because you want to know things like: I constantly feel like I’m on the set of Glee because everyone is constantly singing, dancing, and playing music, why the library is the place to be, and how awesome it is to be a commuter on Tuesdays. You’re curious about why I now, and probably always will call New Orleans my home, but most of all you’re curious about why I chose Loyola.

I fully intend to tell you all of this…in my next blog. So stick around. Things are bound to get interesting, and bumpy, and probably even a tiny bit exciting. It is New Orleans after all!
