You can ask any person on campus their dos and don’ts of Mardi Gras, and I can guarantee you that you will find something different about everyone’s list. Generally, however, they are all related in that they usually pertain to safety measures and preparedness. Having these two aspects of Mardi Gras down allows you to really enjoy the holiday without stressing over anything during a parade or on the way home. Here are a few of my dos and don’ts:
Do: Bring a small backpack with water and snacks (also with enough room to store some beads – they can really weigh down your neck after awhile!), go in a small group and be sure to have everyone’s number, find your spot early and camp out before the parade, use the restroom before you leave the house or campus, and bring a photo ID and cash – leave the wallet at home.
Don’t: Come with a lot of accessories, wear flip-flops or heels, steal beads from kids (not cool, bro), carry all of your debit/credit cards at one time.
Anyway, take a look at what others had to say around campus and have a safe and happy Mardi Gras!
